Buca delle Fate
Buca delle Fate, literally Fairy’s Hole, is a charming place on the Etruscan Coast in Tuscany: it’s a rocky bay that you reach only on foot or from the sea. From Reciso, after the Gulf of Baratti you follow the signs for Populonia Alta. You can park your car at Reciso.
Then you take trail 301 to Buca delle Fate, which is about 3.5 km, and goes through a holm oaks wood and some Etruscan tombs dating back to the Hellenistic Era. You need to you go deeper into the woods of the coastal Mediterranean macchia for about 30 minutes walking until you reach the rocky shore.
At Buca delle Fate water is crystal clear, and you can spot Elba Island on the horizon. The beach is rocky but there are flat rocks where you can lay down and relax. Hotel i Ginepri is about 27.5 km.
Baratti
In the heart of the Etruscan Coast, next to the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia, the beach of Baratti is like no others. The sand has thousands shades from dark red to black that come from the history of this place. Actually this beach is strategically located between the mines of Elba island and the Metalliferous Hills, and it was used as a furnace for making iron by Etruscans.
Water is clean and not deep, perfect for snorkelling; the shady pine grove embrace part of the beach, turning Baratti into a corner of heaven in Tuscany. It’s a popular destination in summer, so make sure to arrive early in the morning to find parking and a good spot on the beach.
To got to Baratti take the superstrada from Grosseto to Livorno (SS1) and exit in San Vincenzo or Venturina then follow the signs to Piombino until you find the crossroad for Baratti. Hotel i Ginepri is about 24 km.

Cala Violina
If you want to visit Cala Violina you need to take a long walk, about 4 km in the wood from the parking lot. But please believe us when we say that it’s definitively worth. The bay of Cala Violina is located between Follonica and Punta Ala, within the Natural Reserve Bandite di Scarlino.
The beach in Cala Violina is sandy and white, and makes a very peculiar sound at noon, something similar to the sound of a violin that gives the name to the place. Water has an intense blue colour looking like the Caribbeann sea. Hotel i Ginepri is about 48 km.

Sterpaia
The Sterpaia Coastal Park, located between Piombino and Follonica and part of the Parks of Val di Cornia, is a long beach running next to a century-old wood, stretching for 296 hectares. Sand is gold and fine, the water is not deep and crystal clear, there are dunes and kilometres of wood.
The Sterpaia Coastal Park is mainly free beach, but there a few bars, facilities and equipped picnic areas. Take the Aurelia SS1, exit in Vignale-Riotorto and drive towards Piombino by following the signs to “Parco costiero della Sterpaia”. Hotel i Ginepri is about 34 km.

Rimigliano
The Coastal Park of Rimigliano is located in the Municipality of San Vincenzo and stretches for about 6 km mixing seaside, sandy beaches, dunes and Mediterranean macchia. There are several entrances along the strada provinciale della Principessa (SP 23) connecting San Vincenzo to Piombino.
The variety of vegetation makes this place quite unique: the woods of holm oaks and maritime pines, together with the sea breeze, make Rimigliano a lovely place. The beach is part of a Natural reserve, but it’s equipped with toilettes and showers. Last but not least from the beach you can spot the Tuscan archipelago on the horizon.
