The Bolgheri Oasis
The Bolgheri Oasis is located on the old Aurelia state road in the north direction, about 5 km from the hotel. The Bolgheri Wildlife Refuge, established in 1959 by the will of the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, was the first private natural oasis in Italy. Today it represents a corner of the ancient and wild Maremma where rare species of migratory birds (mallard, teal, wild goose, marsh harrier, etc.) find shelter. It’s easy to spot wild boar, deer, roe deer, hedgehog, badger, as well as some species of fish and amphibians.
The oasis has a visitor center, two observation towers, and six observation huts. Visits are allowed from October 1st to May 31st with a reservation at the WWF Piombino by calling +39 0565 224361.
