The Etruscan Coast is not only the place for those who love beautiful beaches, but also for those who like exploring the surroundings. There is no way to get bored here! Delve into charming and popular places or immerse yourself in the unspoiled nature.
In front of the hotel there is a fine sandy beach equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds, deckchairs, showers, changing rooms and other facilities. If you want to visit other beaches, we can recommend our favorites, such as the Buca delle Fate, a pebble cove with a cliff of rock behind it overlooking the sea. To reach it, you have to walk three and a half kilometers on a path that crosses a holm oak forest preserving some tombs of an Etruscan necropolis.
Our advice
The beach of Baratti is also one of our favorites and has no equal in all of Tuscany. It is characterized by a shady pine forest that embraces the fascinating beach, whose sand shades from black to red with crystal clear water and predominantly sandy bottoms. We will be happy to give you all the information to visit Cala Violina, with its white and fine sand, the Sterpaia Coastal Park and many others beautiful beaches in the surroundings.
The area is also characterized by shady and beautiful pine forests, that are perfect for hiking, walking, training and doing sport. Near the hotel there is the fascinating Via dei Cavalleggeri, a path established in the times of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and traveled on horseback by the coast guards. This road connected about eighty watchtowers on the coast between Livorno and Grosseto and served to protect the territory from sea raids. Today it is a beautiful shady avenue to walk, cycle or ride a horse.
Not to be missed
Not to be missed the Padule di Bolgheri Wildlife Refuge, a WWF oasis of more than 500 hectares and valuable refuge for many animal species. During the months of June, July and August they organize night treks upon reservation to spot storks, deer, roe deer, wild boar and many other animals.
The Macchia della Magona, in the municipality of Bibbona, is a hidden pearl of the Etruscan Coast consisting of beautiful forests that cover more than 1,600 hectares of typical Mediterranean scrubland that you can explore on foot, horseback or mountain bike. The dune system of our coasts is also noteworthy, and the Botanical Garden “la Soldanella” in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci aims to protect plants growing in the sandy soil and to preserve and enhance the dune environment within the Macchia Mediterranea.
curiosITY
What the locals call Fiume Seggio is the final part of the river named Fossa di Bolgheri, which flows into the sea in the territory of Castagneto Carducci. It used to be an inland port, while today it’s crossed by a pedestrian path leading to the dog .
The Bolgheri Oasis is located on the old Aurelia state road in the north direction, about 5 km from the hotel. The Bolgheri Wildlife Refuge, established in 1959 by the will of the Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, was the first private natural oasis in Italy. Today it represents a corner of the ancient and wild Maremma where rare species of migratory birds (mallard, teal, wild goose, marsh harrier, etc.) find shelter. It’s easy to spot wild boar, deer, roe deer, hedgehog, badger, as well as some species of fish and amphibians.
The Gallorose Wildlife Center is about 10 minutes by car from the hotel on the Aurelia state road in the direction of Livorno. It is located on the south side of Cecina and is immersed in a 50,000 square meter park that houses many species of plants and animals, both native and exotic. The park, inaugurated in 2001, was born from the transformation of a family-run farm into a recreational space where everyone, children and adults, can get to know a wide range of animals and plants.
You can enjoy the magnificent views of the Tuscan Archipelago in just one day. In the summer months, many local tour operators offer day trips to the islands, such as Giglio, Giannutri, and Capraia.
The hotel reception can provide you with all the information you need about excursions, prices and schedules.
There are many ways to fully enjoy holidays on the Etruscan Coast, one of which is on horseback, for a slow journey in close contact with nature. It is precisely this indelible experience that we want to talk to you about today, telling you how riding between sea and pine forest can be the highlight of your next holiday in Tuscany.
